Under the supervision of Dr. Lori Ryan
Hi, I'm Mattie, a licensed professional counselor associate under the supervision of Dr. Lori Ryan and the founder of RockSpring Counseling PLLC. I specialize in helping individuals navigate life’s challenges with greater clarity, confidence, and connection.
I provide therapy that is compassionate, collaborative, and tailored to each client’s unique needs. Whether you're dealing with anxiety, depression, life transitions, burnout, or past trauma, I create a safe, supportive space where you can feel heard, understood, and empowered to grow.
I have a particular interest in working with individuals whose work or responsibilities place them in performance, public speaking, leadership, or other public-facing roles. This includes performers, creatives, ministry leaders, speakers, and others who regularly find themselves “on” for an audience or community. These roles can be deeply meaningful, but they can also come with unique pressures such as performance anxiety, perfectionism, comparison, fear of failure, criticism, burnout, people-pleasing, and the challenge of maintaining healthy boundaries while caring for or leading others. With an undergraduate degree in Musical Theatre and current experience working in ministry with youth and young adults, I bring both personal and professional understanding to these experiences. I enjoy helping clients build confidence, manage the pressure of being seen, and develop a healthy sense of identity that extends beyond their performance, position, or responsibilities.
In my work with children and adolescents, I use play-based and creative approaches to help them express feelings, build resilience, and develop healthy coping skills. My experience in the performing arts and ministry also informs the way I connect with younger clients, creating an environment where they can feel comfortable being themselves while learning to navigate emotions, relationships, confidence, and the challenges of growing up.
For teens and adults, I integrate evidence-based modalities like CBT, mindfulness, and trauma-informed care to support lasting change. My style is warm, down-to-earth, and nonjudgmental. I believe therapy should feel like a meaningful conversation — one where you feel supported but also gently challenged when needed. My goal is to help you reconnect with your strengths and move toward the life you want.
I currently offer both in-person and telehealth sessions and welcome clients from all walks of life. If you're considering therapy for yourself or your child, I'd be honored to support your journey.

The aim is to come alongside individuals to empower them to cultivate resilience and develop effective coping strategies for life's challenges.
Professional Background
Education
Master's in Education from Texas Christian University
I completed my Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at TCU. Through this program I received training in TBRI (Trust Based Relational Intervention), and had the opportunity to work with children in both a play therapy and school counseling settings. TCU's program focused primarily on Solution Focused Therapy, while also providing ongoing courses on other theories and techniques.
Bachelor of Fine Arts from Texas Christian University
I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre from Texas Christian University, where I developed not only a strong foundation in performance, but also a deep appreciation for storytelling, emotional expression, and human connection. My background in the performing arts continues to shape my work as a counselor, informing a creative, empathetic, and attuned approach to the therapeutic process. Drawing from my experience on and off the stage, I understand the unique pressures, vulnerabilities, and identities that can come with creative work, and I strive to create a space where clients feel seen, heard, and supported in exploring their own narratives.

Experience
Years of Practice
Although I graduated in May of 2025, I've been presented with many unique opportunities throughout the years which have helped me gain extensive experience in working with trauma, anxiety, depression, and mood disorders in both children and adults. I have spent time as an educator, worked as an advocate for children in foster care, and assisted individuals experiencing ongoing trauma, substance use, and other adverse experiences. In addition to private practice, I currently work leading adult group counseling sessions in a mental health facility where I primarily use Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy (ERP). I am comfortable sitting in the uncomfortable with clients and work to provide a safe space for individuals of all different backgrounds, belief systems, and cultures.
Therapeutic Style
Client-Centered Approach
My therapeutic approach is client-centered and collaborative, focusing on individual needs and goals. We integrate evidence-based techniques and empathy to create a trusting and empowering therapeutic relationship that promotes self-exploration, insight, and positive change.
Areas of Expertise
Specialized Counseling
I specialize in addressing anxiety disorders, depression, trauma and PTSD, women's issues, and other life changes. By tailoring therapy to each client's unique situation, I assist individuals, including children, in addressing specific concerns, overcoming obstacles, and encouraging emotional well-being. For adults this may be through talk therapy, while play therapy may be used for children ages 4 to 12.
Continuous Development
Professional Growth
I am dedicated to continuous training and professional development to stay informed about the latest research and therapeutic approaches. By expanding my knowledge and skills, I ensure that clients receive high-quality and up-to-date therapeutic interventions.
